Hope You’re Keeping Warm

This weather, friends! Last week was a doozy and here we are with some some fresh snow and cold temps this week. We hope you all have your power back and you can keep it through this next bout of weather.

Thanks so much to all of our customers who re-ordered after we had to cancel last week! We really appreciate you bearing with us.

One way to keep hope alive through this long, cold winter is to think about the gardens we’ll have in the summer and fall. We can help. We are selling a wide variety of organic Southern Exposure seeds, from flowers to herbs to veggies. Get your gardening on with a few new packets of seeds!

Our vendors have some great options to keep you fed all day long. Start off the day with eggs, breakfast sausage or bacon, and croissants or toast. If you prefer a lighter fare, two of our vendors sell granola. And if you have a sweet tooth, there is banana bread, donuts, and cinnamon rolls. For lunch, why not make a ham sandwich? There are many different types of bread to choose from, including sourdough, jalapeno cheddar, and wheat. You can get a small (or large) uncured ham, cook that up, and have sandwiches for you and all your friends. For dinner, maybe some duck, chicken, lamb, or pork with dinner rolls or focaccia. And the desserts! Chocolate cake, cookies, tarts, and so many pies. We may not have produce right now (cursing winter) but there are so many great foods to choose from.

A reminder that our Grow More Vegetables class has been rescheduled to THIS Saturday, February 22, at 9 am. The class is limited to 20 people. Please email Michelle Pridgen at independencefarmersmarket@gmail.com to register.

Don’t forget about our pre-season market on Friday, April 18, from 9 am to 1 pm in Town Park. Get your Easter shopping done with the Independence Farmers’ Market! Our grand opening for the regular season will be Friday, May 2.

If you’re a bacon fiend, His Heritage Homestead is selling uncured, pasture raised bacon. Order yours today and dream about the tasty breakfast or BLT you can make next week.

The Online Market is open for ordering Wednesdays at 8 PM until Mondays at 8 PM.

The In-Person Market is open from 9 AM until 1 PM Fridays from May to October.

The Independence Farmers Market is a proud member of VAFMA and is on the Virginia is for Farmers Market Lovers trail. The online and regular Friday Farmers Markets welcome Snap and EBT and offer up to a $30 match for SNAP purchases to buy fresh fruits and vegetables. This grant funding is provided by the Gus Schumaker Nutrition Incentive network. In addition, the Market welcomes WIC and Senior Farmers Market coupons. The IFM is a project of Grayson LandCare.

Russellville Community Market:  2/17/25 inclement weather plan

Did you forget to place an online order? No worries! Shop our extras table during order pick-up this Tuesday!

Greetings RCM customers! The weather report for order pick up this Tuedsay is not looking ideal but we want everyone to get their groceries while they are fresh! We have asked the vendors to drop off their goods as early as they are able on Tuesday morning and as soon as all the items in an order have arrived, we will call or text you to let you know that your order is ready to be picked up. A market representative should be at the depot by 10 AM. We are hoping that by trying to get orders ready earlier than usual we can avoid the worst of the weather and have everyone safe at home with their groceries before 4 PM. The extras table will available during the day while we are conducting order pick up, but we are not planning to remain at the depot much later than 4 PM. When your order is ready please pick it up as soon as you are able or contact the market staff to make other arrangements. Thank you all for supporting our local friends!
Don’t forget to follow us on Facebook and Instagram!

RCM accepts cash, checks, credit and debit cards and SNAP/EBT transactions.
